സി എസ് ഐ മധ്യകേരള മഹായിടവകയിലെ പട്ടക്കാരനും ഇപ്പോൾ ഹൈദരാബാദ് മലയാളം ഇടവകയുടെ ശുശ്രൂഷകനുമായ റവ. ജോസഫ് ശാമുവലിന് സെറാംപൂർ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും പുതിയ നിയമത്തിൽ ഡോക്ട്രേറ്റ് ലഭിച്ചു. " An Inter(con) textual Reading on Paul's Response to the Socio-economic problems in 1 Corinthians and Dr. B R Ambedkar's Response to the caste system in Annihilation of Caste " എന്ന വിഷയത്തെ അധികരിച്ച് ബാംഗ്ലൂർ യുണൈറ്റഡ് തിയോളജിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ പ്രൊഫ. ഡോ. സാം പീടികയിൽ മാത്യുവിൻ്റെ മേൽനോട്ടത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ വ്യാഖ്യാന ഗവേഷണത്തിനാണ് ബിരുദം ലഭിച്ചത്.
സാമൂഹിക വിഭാഗീയതകൾ പ്രശ്നസങ്കീർണ്ണമാക്കിയ കൊരിന്ത്യ സഭയെ സാഹോദര്യത്തിൻ്റെയും സ്നേഹത്തിൻ്റെയും ക്രിസ്തു സുവിശേഷത്തിലൂടെ സമത്വ സമൂഹമായി 1 കൊരിന്ത്യർ ലേഖനത്തിൽ പൗലോസ് വിഭാവനം ചെയ്യുന്നു. ജാതീയ വേർതിരിവുകൾ ശ്രേണി ബന്ധമാക്കിയ ഇന്ത്യൻ സാമൂഹികതയുടെ സൂഷ്മ വിശകലനത്തിലൂടെ നീതി, സമത്വം, സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം, സാഹോദര്യം എന്നീ വിമോചനാത്മകമായ ആശയങ്ങളുടെ പ്രായോഗിതയിലൂടെ ഒരു സ്വതന്ത്ര ഇന്ത്യൻ ദേശീയത അംബേദ്ക്കർ " ജാതി ഉന്മൂലനം " എന്ന 1936 ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച പ്രസംഗത്തിലൂടെ ആവിഷ്ക്കരിച്ചു. ഈ രണ്ട് എഴുത്തുകളുടേയും പാഠാന്തര- ആശയ സമന്വയമാണ് ഈ ഗവേഷണത്തിനാധാരം. അസമത്വങ്ങളെ നിർമ്മിക്കുന്ന വർത്തമാനകാല സാമൂഹിക- സഭാ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളിൽ പൗലോസിൻ്റേയും അംബേദ്ക്കറിൻ്റെയും സംഭാഷണങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുയിർക്കുന്ന ദർശനപരിസരങ്ങൾക്ക് ഒരു പുതിയ സമത്വ സമൂഹത്തെ നിർമ്മിക്കാനാകുമെന്ന രാഷ്ട്രീയ സഭാവിജ്ഞാനീയമാണ് ഈ പഠനത്തിൻ്റെ കണ്ടെത്തൽ.

Rev. Joseph Samuel, a presbyter of the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese and currently serving the Hyderabad Malayalam Pastorate, has been awarded a Doctorate in the New Testament from Serampore University.
His research, titled “An Inter(con)textual Reading on Paul’s Response to the Socio-economic Problems in 1 Corinthians and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s Response to the Caste System in Annihilation of Caste,” was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sam Peedikayil Mathew at the United Theological College, Bangalore.
The study explores how Paul, in his First Letter to the Corinthians, envisions a community of equality grounded in the Gospel of Christ—responding to a church fragmented by socio-economic divisions with a call to love and fraternity. In parallel, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, through his 1936 speech “Annihilation of Caste,” exposes the structural inequalities of the Indian caste system and presents a radical vision for a just, free, and equal society.
This doctoral research brings these two texts into dialogue, offering a profound exploration of how Paul and Ambedkar—though separated by time and context—contribute visionary responses toward building egalitarian communities. The theological-political insight of this work suggests that the intersection of their thoughts can inspire transformative movements in today’s church and society, which are still grappling with inequality.
