Vision "To be Kerala's leading community service project"

Mission To help the needy and less privileged brethren by incarnating the word of God "To serve and not to be served"

The CSI Ascension Sevananilayam is a social service project of the CSI Ascension Church at Kanjikuzhy, Kotttayam, in South India, under the Diocese of Madhya (Central) Kerala. The Nilayam is celebrating the Ruby (40th) anniversary of its four decades of service, developed for catering to the physical, emotional and social needs of the people, who come from all over Kerala and far for treatment to the Government Medical College, Kottayam, Kerala, India.

The Sevananilayam was primarily envisaged as a low cost shelter to those who come to the medical college. Today, we assist eligible patients with medicines, food, ambulance (with mobile mortuary service) and counseling while they are in treatment at the hospital. Today we also accommodate chemo therapy patients who come from far places and cannot find bed in the hospital. This place with dormitories is a consolation for our less privileged brethren who throng the corridors of the 2000 bedded multi specialty medical college at Kottayam. It also has double and multi-bedded rooms.

The free distribution of ‘Kanji’ for breakfast is great consolation to hundreds of hospital visitors. We feed about 400 persons each day except Sundays. This is a project well acknowledged by the patients, Kottayam public, outsiders and church members.

The C S I Ascension church at Kanjikuzhy under the diocese of Madhya (Central) Kerala, Kottayam District, Kerala in South India has had an independent life with a membership of about 750 families consisting of upper middle class, middle class and lesser fortunate of the community. The social concern of the church and a specific occasion in the life of one of its member families prompted the vision of Late Bishop. Sam Mathew to start a service project for the people who come to the medical college Kottayam with different ailments and needing other helps. The Ascension with its motto 'A Church with a heart' listened to the call of Bishop. Sam and started this 'Nilayam' in 1980 and has been a shade to masses ever since.

The Sevananilayam project aims at developing the overall standard of life of the poor and marginal community in the district of Kottayam. It is a challenge that will never end.
