Mysore Mission: An Overview

The C.S.I. Mysore Mission, established in the year 1995 during the episcopal reign of Rt. Rev. Dr. Sam Mathew (then the Diocesan Bishop), remains committed in sharing the love of Christ through education and evangelization to the poor and marginalized in society. The challenge of religious sectarianism, caste discrimination, and also social discernment, to a large extent, hinders the growth of this mission. The threefold ministry of the mission is as follows. The Mission to Unreached, The Village Ministry with its focus on cottage prayers and regular house visits in 12 villages of H.D. Kote Taluq is an integral part of bringing believers to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. The closet believers (believers whom they hide their faith in fear of persecution from the society) have a strenuous faith in Jesus Christ which enables them to tarnish the oppressive structures to an extent. The education ministry through St. Paul’s Mission English Medium High School stands as a distinctive ministry of God’s care and providence to the deprived and downtrodden children of the society at large. The students from farming community constitutes the majority of the student body of the school. Hence, the school has been in journey of nurturing and tutoring a community to achieve their dreams for life as competent and humane individuals as they move out from the portals of St. Paul’s Mission School at C.S.I. Mysore Mission. The children’s ministry, which takes place after the regular Sunday worships, is another thrust of the mission wherein little children of the villages are taught Bible stories and Christian songs thus inculcating spiritual and moral values in them.
