Shalom Mission
Shalom Mission: An Overview
Our Mission: To give victims of exploitation the opportunity to live in freedom with dignity and equality in society through providing shelter, education, vocational training and moral and social counselling.
This mission work started in 2014 by Malayalam churches of Mumbai under the leadership of C.S.I. Madhya Kerala Diocese. Lots of young girls and women are transported to Mumbai city for human and Sex trafficking from different villages of India. They are victimized because of their social and financial conditions. Some of them are innocent victims of deceitful people. The major concern of this mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, rejuvenate, and reintegrate victims of human trafficking into society. Our Vision: “We affirm our responsibility to encourage the flourishing of traumatized women from the Red-light area of Mumbai through our engagement with society.”
As part of mission work, we have engaged in several rescue operations and rescued victims. Re-integration of 28 victims with their families or society has been done successfully till 2022. Till now we have rehabilitated 36+ women through our homes, and we have given rehabilitation support to 1000+ Women and Girl Children. In partnership with government bodies, we redeveloped Child Welfare Committee (CWC) court in Byculla and Ulhasnagar and reconstructed Government Minor Shelter Home Chembur. Started a tailoring unit in Government Major Shelter Home, Chembur, and gave 6 tailoring machines. We are giving uniforms to children of Juvenile Homes and we have helped many shelter homes with food, clothes, and skill development programs. We Conduct awareness programs and workshops for youths of society to end human trafficking & child sex abuse, and medical camps for HIV/AIDS-infected persons. As part of our rehabilitation program, we started a 16 bedded facility called ‘Shalom Niwas’ in 2018 with a house mother, counselor, and caretakers for Major victims. We have started an in-house entrepreneurial project for our inmates and made different cloth products, bags, and 1500+ masks during the pandemic. We have Acquired 5.6 Acres of land for the further development program of shalom Mission. Now we are raising funds for building a rehabilitation center to accommodate 35+ girls and a skill development center for the training of girls.
