സി.എസ്.ഐ. സിനഡ് മോഡറേറ്റർ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് 2025 ജൂലൈ 2-ന്
2024-ലെ എസ്.എൽ.പി. (സി) നമ്പർ 9079–9081-ലെ ബഹുമാനപ്പെട്ട സുപ്രീം കോടതി 2025 മെയ് 2-ന് പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ച നിർദ്ദേശങ്ങൾക്കും, സി.എസ്. നമ്പർ 86/2022-ലെ അപേക്ഷ നമ്പർ 54 മുതൽ 57 വരെ, 2584/2023 വരെ ഉൾപ്പെടെ ബഹുമാനപ്പെട്ട മദ്രാസ് ഹൈക്കോടതി 2023 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 5-ന് പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ച ഉത്തരവും അനുസരിച്ച്, ദി ചർച്ച് ഓഫ് സൗത്ത് ഇന്ത്യ (CSI) സിനഡിന്റെ മോഡറേറ്റർ സ്ഥാനത്തേക്കുള്ള തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് 2025 ജൂലൈ 2-ാം തീയതി, ബുധനാഴ്ച, ചെന്നൈയിൽ നടക്കുമെന്ന് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് ഓഫീസർ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.
ഈ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് 2023–2026 ത്രൈവാർഷിക കാലത്തേക്കാണ്. 2023 ജനുവരി 13-ന് സിനഡ് ഓഫീസ് ഭാരവാഹികളുടെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നടന്ന ദിവസം നിലവിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന സിന ഡ് അംഗങ്ങൾക്ക് (ഇലക്ടറൽ കോളീജ്) മാത്രമാണ് വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാൻ അർഹത ഉള്ളത്.
നിയമാനുസൃതമായി, ആ തീയതിയിൽ സിനഡ് അംഗങ്ങളായിരുന്നവർക്ക് മാത്രമേ വോട്ടുചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയൂ. അതിനാൽ, വിരമിക്കൽ പ്രായമായ 67 വയസ്സിൽ വിരമിച്ച ഏഴ് ബിഷപ്പുമാർ ഇലക്ടറൽ കോളീജിൽ നിന്ന് ഒഴിവാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അവരുടെ പേരുകൾ ചുവടെ ചേർക്കുന്നു:

ബിഷപ്പുമാർ സിനഡിന്റെ എക്സ് -ഒഫിഷിയോ അംഗങ്ങളായതിനാൽ, വിരമിക്കുന്ന സമയത്ത് അവരുടെ സിനഡ് അംഗത്വം നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നതും അതിനാൽ വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാൻ അർഹരല്ലാത്തതുമാണ്.
മുൻ മോഡറേറ്റർ അന്നത്തെ ഓഫീസ് ഭാരവാഹികളുമായി ചർച്ച ചെയ്ത്, ഭരണഘടനാ ഭേദഗതികളെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി സിനഡിലേക്ക് നാമനിർദേശിക്കപ്പെട്ട 15 അംഗങ്ങൾക്കും, മുൻ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ വോട്ട് ചെയ്തിരുന്നെങ്കിലും, ഇപ്പോൾ കോടതിയുടെ ഉത്തരവിൻ പ്രകാരം, ഈ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ വോട്ടുചെയ്യാൻ അനുവദിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.
കൂടാതെ, വിരമിച്ച മൂന്ന് പ്രസ്ബിറ്റർമാർ—

എന്നിവരുടെ പേരുകളും വോട്ടർമാരുടെ പട്ടികയിൽ നിന്ന് ഒഴിവാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
അന്തിമ ഇലക്ടറൽ റോൾ സിനഡിന്റെ ഔദ്യോഗിക വെബ്സൈറ്റിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കുകയും, എല്ലാ ബിഷപ്പുമാർക്കും മോഡറേറ്റർ കമ്മിസ്സറിമാർക്കും അയച്ചുകൊടുക്കുകയും, കൂടാതെ സിനഡ് ഓഫിസിലെ നോട്ടിസ് ബോർഡിലും പ്രദർശിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതാണ്.
സിഎസ്ഐ സഭയുടെ ഭരണ പ്രതിസന്ധി ഇതോടുകൂടെ പരിഹരിക്കപ്പെടും എന്ന് ആശിക്കുന്നു.
In accordance with the directions issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on May 2, 2025, in SLP (C) Nos. 9079–9081 of 2024, and the Hon’ble High Court of Madras on September 5, 2023, in Application Nos. 54 to 57 and 2584 of 2023 in CS No. 86 of 2022, the Election Officer has announced that the election to the post of Moderator of the Church of South India (CSI) Synod will be conducted on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Chennai.
This election is for the 2023–2026 triennium, and the eligible voters will be members of the Synod (Electoral College) as constituted on January 13, 2023, the date of the last election for the Synod office bearers.
As per the rules, only Synod members as of that date will be allowed to vote. Consequently, seven bishops who have since retired upon attaining the age of superannuation (67 years) are excluded from the electoral college. These include:
- Rt. Rev. B. N. Feen (Cochin),
- Rt. Rev. Dr. Prasana Kumar Samuel (Karnataka Central),
- Rt. Rev. Oommen George (Kollam-Kottarakara),
- Rt. Rev. Dr. J. George Stephen (Madras),
- Rt. Rev. Dr. E. Pushpalalitha (Nandyal),
- Rt. Rev. Dr. D. Chandrasekaran (Trichy-Tanjore), and
- Rt. Rev. A. Dharmaraj Rasalam (former Moderator, South Kerala).
Since bishops are ex-officio members of the Synod, they cease to be members once they retire and are therefore not eligible to vote.
Further, 15 additional members who were nominated to the Synod by the former Moderator in consultation with the then office bearers, based on proposed constitutional amendments currently under legal challenge, have also been excluded from the current electoral college. Though these members voted in the previous election, they are barred from participating in this election in light of the court orders.
In addition, three presbyters—Rev. D. John (Karimnagar), Rev. Suseel Simon (Madhya Kerala), and Rev. Dr. Shajan A. Idiculla (Madhya Kerala)—have retired, and one presbyter, Rev. Tagaram Syam Babu (Krishna-Godavari), has passed away. Their names have also been removed from the voters list.
The final electoral roll will be published on the official website of the CSI Synod, shared with all Bishops and Moderator’s Commissaries, and displayed on the Synod Notice Board.
We hope that the administrative crisis in the CSI Church will be resolved with this election.
