2025 നവംബറിൽ ബ്രസീലിൽ നടക്കാനിരിക്കുന്ന ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്ര സഭയുടെ കാലാവസ്ഥ വ്യതിയാന കോൺഫറൻസിനുള്ള ഒരുക്കത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി, സി.എസ്.ഐ. മദ്ധ്യകേരള മഹായിടവക പരിസ്ഥിതി വകുപ്പിന്റെ സഹകരണത്തോടെ കോട്ടയം സി.എം.എസ്. കോളേജിൽ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്സ് ക്ലൈമറ്റ് പാർലമെ ന്റ്, ദൃഢവും സംഗതവുമായ ഒരു വിദ്യാർത്ഥി സാക്ഷ്യവേദിയായി മാറി. 17 രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള വിദ്യാർത്ഥി പ്രതിനിധികൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പാർലമെന്റ്, ദൈനംദിന ജീവിതത്തിൽ ദുരിതക്കാഴ്ചകൾക്ക് അടിയന്തര പരിഹാരം കാണണം എന്ന് ശക്തമായി വാദിച്ചു. തങ്ങൾക്ക് പങ്ക് ഇല്ലാതിരിക്കെ കാലാവസ്ഥ വ്യതിയാനത്തിന്റെ ദുരിതം—ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റുകൾ, വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കങ്ങൾ, വരൾച്ച, തീരദേശ ശോഷണം, ഭൂപ്രക്ഷേപം—ഗ്ലോബൽ സൗത്തിൽ വസിക്കുന്ന ദുർബല ജനവിഭാഗങ്ങളെയാണ് ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ബാധിക്കുന്നത്.
“ഞങ്ങൾ സൃഷ്ടിക്കാത്ത ഒരു പ്രതിസന്ധിയുടെ ഇരകളാണ് ഞങ്ങൾ. അനന്തമായ ചർച്ചകൾക്കായി ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് കാത്തിരിക്കാനാവില്ല. വേണ്ടത് നടപടി ആണു—ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നെ.” എന്ന മുദ്രാവാക്യവുമായി വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾ ശക്തമായ നിലപാട് എടുത്തു. പാർലമെന്റ് വ്യത്യസ്ത കാഴ്ചപ്പാടുകൾക്ക് സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിച്ചു, അമേരിക്കൻ പ്രതിനിധി സാമ്പത്തിക വളർച്ച മുൻഗണന നൽകുന്നതായി ഉദ്ധരിച്ചപ്പോൾ, ഇന്ത്യൻ പ്രതിനിധി ആ അഭിപ്രായത്തെ ശക്തമായി പ്രതിരോധിച്ചു. ഭൂട്ടാനിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ചാപ്ലെയൻ–രാഷ്ട്രീയ പ്രതിനിധി ആനന്ദം, സമത്വം, ധാർമ്മികവും സുസ്ഥിരവുമായ ജീവിതം എന്നതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ പുതിയ കാഴ്ചപ്പാട് പങ്കുവെച്ചു.
പാർലമെന്റിന്റെ സമാപന പ്രസംഗത്തിൽ സ്പീക്കർ കാലാവസ്ഥ വ്യതിയാനത്തെ പരിസ്ഥിതിയും സാമ്പത്തികവുമായ പ്രശ്നമായി മാത്രമല്ല, മറിച്ച് നീതിയും ആത്മീയതയും ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ധാർമ്മിക പ്രതിസന്ധിയായി പുനർവ്യാഖ്യാനിച്ചു.
സൃഷ്ടിയുടെ ആന്തരിക മൂല്യത്തെ അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നതും, മനുഷ്യകേന്ദ്രിത ചിന്തയെ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യുന്നതും, പരസ്പരസഹകരണവും ധാർമ്മികമായ ഉണർവും ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന ഒരു പുതിയ ധാർമ്മിക കാഴ്ചപ്പാടിലേക്ക് മനുഷ്യർ മാറേണ്ടതുണ്ടെന്ന് പങ്കുവെച്ച പാർലമെന്റ്, രാഷ്ട്രീയ അനുരഞ്ജനങ്ങൾക്കപ്പുറമുള്ള യഥാർത്ഥ പ്രവർത്തിയിലേക്കാണ് ലോകനേതാക്കളെ ഉദ്ബോധിപ്പിച്ചത്. ഈ വിദ്യാർത്ഥി പാർലമെന്റ് പ്രതീകാത്മക ചടങ്ങ് എന്നതിലുപരി, കാർബൺരഹിതവും നീതിയുക്തവും അനുകമ്പയുള്ള ഒരു ഭാവിക്കുവേണ്ടി യുവതലമുറയുടെ ഒരു ആഹ്വാനമായിരുന്നു.
In anticipation of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30), scheduled for November 2025 in Brazil, CMS College, Kottayam, in collaboration with the Department of Ecological Concerns of the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese, organized a prophetic and powerful Student Climate Parliament. Delegates from 17 countries came together to voice their concerns, grounded in lived realities and ethical urgency.
The Parliament highlighted the disproportionate impact of the climate crisis on the Global South—manifesting through cyclones, floods, droughts, coastal erosion, and displacement—even though these regions have contributed least to the crisis. Students voiced a unified declaration: “We are victims of a crisis we did not create. We cannot wait for endless discussions. We demand action—now.”
The simulated international dialogue featured contrasting responses: the U.S. Ambassador emphasized economic priorities, the Indian Ambassador underlined the plight of the poor, and a chaplain-diplomat from Bhutan offered a vision rooted in Gross National Happiness and ecological harmony.
The Parliament further appealed for firm commitment to international climate agreements, ethical protection of forests and biodiversity, and dignified resettlement for those displaced by ecological disruption. Far more than a symbolic exercise, this Student Parliament became a clarion call from the next generation: a courageous and prophetic demand for world leaders to move beyond empty rhetoric toward meaningful, transformative action for a carbon-free, just, and compassionate future.
At the public meeting held after the Parliament, Kottayam MLA Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan commended the Church of South India (CSI) for the importance it places on environmental protection. Dr. Ruble Raj, former principal of Marian College, appreciated the Department of Ecology for the training imparted to students, and congratulated Dr. Mathew Koshi Punnakkad, Rev. Anil Thomas, Dr. Nisha Ann Jacob, and others for their leadership. Bishop in the Madhya Kerala Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Malayil Sabu Koshy Cherian, remarked that “The Earth belongs to the next generation” and urged all to live with awareness and responsibility toward nature. CMS College Principal Anju Sosan George and others also conveyed their felicitations. Clergy Secretary Rev. Aniyan K. Paul, CMS College Principal Anju Sosham George, retired Supreme Court Judge Mr. K. T. Thomas, and others also offered their felicitations. Master Trainer Asst. Prof. Ashok Alex Luke (CMS College), Mr. Sudeep Cherian, and Mr. Asqwith Umman Alex deserve special appreciation.
