Parkal Mission
Parkal Mission, the first-ever mission field of the Madhya Kerala Diocese, is spread over about five hundred villages in the districts of Hanamkonda, Jayashankar and Bhupalappalli in the state of Telangana. The mission now turned 98 years old. The missionaries and the local pastors and counsellors gather in villages and stay there for two days. Through house visits and personal sharing, they spread the gospel from house to house. The mission has 13 evangelists working full-time across our 17 centres and we are in need of more evangelists. The mission expects people who are inspired by God to join the mission field. Currently, the mission work is spread across more than 100 villages. Many underprivileged children are being given a quality and value English education through St. Thomas School, Parkal. 60 orphan children are given shelter in the orphanages at Parkal and Gandhinagar. The activities in Parkal include Gandhinagar Home of Love, Bethel Ashram and Gandhinagar Sister Edith Neave Memorial School. A new area of work began in Musalampet, a village among the Tribals near Pampapur. God is opening doors to new areas of mission work. The work started in a community that is almost in the forest without electricity and drinking water and is not connected to the outside world. These people, who did not want to have much contact with the outside world, began to interact with the missionaries. It has been reported that there are around 25 villages like this inside the forest. Baptism services were held in various villages. Spiritual services and various training programmes are being conducted for the youth, children, women, etc. 35 youngsters participated in the mission exposure meeting conducted by the mission. 12 among them dedicated to evangelistic work. The story of the Late Rev. K. E. Eapen, the great pioneer missionary in Parkal, has inspired these youngsters. As Parkal Mission prepares for its centenary celebrations, assessments are underway to leave the self-sufficient local churches to Karimnagar Diocese and expand the activities of the mission to new villages. It is noteworthy that the activities of the Girls' Home, Boys' Home and the School run by Bethel Ashram are going on with desired results.
